March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Woodstock (Cobb County) Georgia -- Animal rescue groups step in, sometimes at the very last minute, to save the lives of many homeless animals.  With animal shelters filled to the brim and often overflowing, space is severely lacking to house so many deserving animals.  In “kill shelters”, animals that are not adopted are euthanized (put to death) while other inbound animals continue to fill the shelters.  Animals on death row wait to be adopted, but often they simply run out of time.

Many compassionate individuals and groups rescue animals from impending death at many shelters.  Some groups rescue only dogs; some rescue only cats; others rescue both.  After their successful rescues, the groups are then faced with the task of finding loving homes for the homeless animals.  From the time an animal is rescued to its successful adoption, rescue groups incur many costs including housing, feeding, grooming, micro chipping, veterinary care, and sometimes training to socialize traumatized animals.

There are many reasons for animals to become homeless.  Often, animals are found as strays and captured by local animal control authorities.  Attempts to find the animals’ owners may be unsuccessful; but sometimes even when the owners are located, they decline to reclaim their dogs or cats.  Some owners surrender their animals to shelters, citing reasons including having a new baby, moving to another city, or not having the time or money to care for the animal, among other reasons.  Many dogs are rescued from puppy mills and others are removed from abusive owners.

To raise money and cover many of these costs, some metro-Atlanta rescue organizations have joined forces to sponsor their Third Annual “Flea” Market.  This huge indoor yard sale will offer gently used and new items at garage-sale prices, with 100% of the profits directed toward helping local homeless animals.  Shoppers will find great bargains on antiques, furniture, books, artwork, rugs, jewelry, china, baby & children’s clothing, office supplies, tools, sporting goods, electronics, collectibles, garden items, household items, and pet supplies.

This Third Annual “Flea” Market is graciously sponsored by Climatized Self Storage; 42 Sycamore Lane; Woodstock, GA 30188.  Dates for this event are:  April 1-3; April 8-10; and April 15-17.  Hours of the sale will be:  Fridays 9AM-4PM; Saturdays 9AM-4PM; and Sundays 11AM-4PM.  In conjunction with the sale will be a food drive sponsored by Pet Buddies Food Pantry.  Please bring canned and dry dog food and cat food items to donate to the food drive.
