The technique consists of removing a number of follicular units from the donor area of the patient, usually the back of the head, by the surgeon. The follicular units are then dissected one by one, under the microscope and then singularly placed onto the target area, usually the front of the head, follicle by follicle.
One of the most critical parts of the operation is the dissection of follicles: this must be done with great care and precision, not damaging the follicles during the process, which is usually completed under controlled temperatures. The most critical problem is the length of a complete session which can be as long as 6-8 hours, and during this time the nurses have to work under the microscope with extreme care and accuracy.
