Stephen Elop facing tough problem, Nokia Windows Phone may delayed - brothersoft

March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- According to Bloomberg, Stephen Elop, Nokia CEO, has to face rough traditional challenge to accelerate Nokia Windows Phone.

During the past four years, Nokia Oyj managers were on vacation at their lake cottages in Finland while Apple Inc. released iPhone.

“In mid-July, Nokia House is a ghost town, if you need a decision and the key person’s at the summer cottage? Forget it. You’ll resolve that issue in September. It’s something that hampers their agility.” said Adam Greenfield, managing director of Urbanscale.

Speeding up the company's product development has been put on the agenda since Stephen Elop took a post as Nokia CEO. He is exploring a groundbreaking way to narrow the widening gap between Nokia and Apple as well as Google in smartphone market. Now Nokia is having such great hope for Nokia Windows Phone.

Because of some problem of its top-end smartphones in the last two years, Nokia encountered slumping profits and market share. Even since the Nokia – Microsoft alliance, the bygone mobile giant still plummet to its decline range as 28%.

Interestingly, Elop was a former Microsoft executive, and nominated as nokia CEO in last September. Since then, Nokia empire has matched into a brand new time of Nokia Windows Phone, instead of Symbian and MeeGo.

Of course, we have to wait for a long time, because its new product won’t debut until 2012. However, Robert Saint Philip, a famous analyst insisted that it would be gratifying if Nokia Windows Phone could be released within this year instead of next year.

To obtain achievements, Nokia still has to conquer some embarrassments:

Productivity Gap

Elop must reduce the productivity gap to improve profitability. According to Bloomberg, Apple’s per employee revenue wins the first place, which is three times of Nokia, HTC takes in the second place and Microsoft is the third.

Despite of the Nokia – Microsoft alliance, Apple is still a powerful rival. Nokia lost nearly 20% market share since Apple released iPhone in 2007, while WP7 merely takes in 3.4%, far behind Apple iOS and Google Android.

“The first proof points will come when they start to put maps into Microsoft services and integrate them with Nokia services. It’s in those announcements over the coming six to nine months that we’ll see how well it’s working before the phones start to arrive.” Martin Garner, a famous analyst, expressed.

The primary issue

Nokia seems always failed to get out of product delay since N97. Even its first device with MeeGo couldn’t escape from that trap of being postponed.

Early In January, Bert Nordberg, the CEO of Android-based phone maker Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Ltd., claimed the mobile product cycles was down to this June or July. While Horace Dediu, the managing director of Helsinki-based Asymco, considered Nokia need at least 18 months or even 2 years for a new hardware.

Additionally, Stephen Elop said the real No. 1 issue of Nokia was “speed and responsibility”. “We’re moving at a speed that is unparalleled for our company and I would argue is on par with anyone else in the industry. The number of examples of difficult processes, of committees and boards and agencies and commissions, all these people who are spending time contemplating instead of aggressively moving forward is something that we’re already fundamentally changing.” He believed.

Yet IDC declared that as Apple won’t stop releasing new product this year, thus if the Nokia – Microsoft alliance failed to respond quickly enough, they will still not face optimistic market share.
