March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- New Delhi - Dreaming Child Productions, in association with Vidya and Child, is organizing Open My Mind, a children’s festival to harness their inherent skills and talents. This is the first in the series of many such festivals coming up later in the year. The festival will be held on April 9, 2011 at Sanskriti Foundation, Anandgram, Mehrauli between 9am-6 pm.

More than 300 children within the age bracket of 9-18 years will be participating in many workshops conductedby 21 eminent artists from the fields of art and performing art. Children will be made to explore and create in any form of art of their choice from the following seven fields:-

1.   Film Making
2.   Theatre
3.   Arts
4.   Design
5.   Dance
6.   Music
7.   Creative Writing

Also, there would be eminent educationists from various prominent schools in Delhi to share their experience and learning with children. The schools include Modern school Barakhamba Road, Amity University, DPS Mathura Road, Vidya, G.D Goenka, Pathways, VidyaSanskar, Mater Dei and St. Columbus, Gole Market.

“After doing research for three years in five schools in Delhi, Noida and Faridabad, we have found that education has become an arduous process as opposed to a joyful and effortless one.” Says Mahima Kaur, founder and director of Dreaming Child Productions.

Delhi has become a hub of many educational activities for children. But mere teaching Math or Science is not enough for overall growth of children. Today, children need more than these subjects that are meant just to serve technical or political thoughts. What our children need today is a space for them where they can have a sense of existence and pride. So we need a movement to give our children not to become someone but to be someone.

`Open My Mind’ is one such movement which would provide space for children with the following benefits:

1.   Expose children to different fields of learning and ignite in them the spirit of exploring and questioning. Once the spirit is there, learning just happens.

2.   It would also give the children freedom to choose what they want to learn, as opposed to what they find in their curriculum. This will enable them to get to know their interests, hobbies which can later develop as a career.

3.   Letting the children create together. This will allow action orientated learning which will make teachers and students realize how effortless learning can be.

4.    Art is one of the best ways to teach a child because it is action oriented and requires alot of collaborative efforts amongst the children. It also allows the children to create and showcase something of their own, which is a great learning experience itself.  Often art is looked upon as an extracurricular activity, but we see it as a tool to learn any subject in this world in a fun way. For example, film making can be used to learn history by making a documentary on the Mughals or communications by children who can form their own news channel. The possibilities are endless!

After this event the top 15 most wanted workshops by the children will be taken forward by Dreaming Child Productions in the coming year. Thus, this event is not just an event but also a starting point for a transformation to happen in the lives of so many children.
