Miami Coalition For The Homeless Announces Winners Of The 5th Annual Student Competition

March 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Before a record setting crowd of over 200 people in Miami’s historic Tower Theater, the Miami Coalition for the Homeless announced the winners of their 5th Annual Student Competition.  The Student Competition, an official event of the Miami International Film Festival, was created to raise awareness of homelessness in South Florida.  This year the competition drew an unprecedented 56 entries from 65 high school students on the theme “Homelessness: Just Look Around”.

The winners in the “Public Service Announcement” category are:

1st Place   Eric Flemons, a senior at the University School of NSU

2nd Place   Connor Guest, a sophomore at Ransom Everglades

3rd Place    Kasey Gonzalez, Lauren Thermes & Emily Galves, freshmen at South Dade Senior High School

The winners in the “Short Film” category are:

1st Place    Kasey Gonzalez, Lauren Thermes & Emily Galvez, freshmen at South Dade Senior High School

2nd Place    Luiza Georgescu, a junior at Miami Beach Senior High School

3rd Place   Victoria Palacio, a senior at John A. Ferguson Senior High School   

In presenting this year’s awards, the Miami Coalition for the Homeless partnered with the Miami International Film Festival, Neighbors 4 Neighbors, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, CBS4 and TV33.
