March 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Congressmen Jason Altmire, D-Pa., and Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., both long-time homecare supporters, teamed up with HME providers to present the “Fairness in Medicare Bidding Act” to Washington legislatures.  Altmire spoke at the Capitol Hill press conference as well as the AAHomecare conference this past month.

“DME providers must articulate how the program is affecting them and the patients on the ground” says Tess Mullen, press aide to Altmire.

Competitive bidding affects DME businesses, their employees, and their beneficiaries.  There are many issues plaguing the industry in its current state including problems with access, confusion, and more costly healthcare because of the inability to get into a home setting quicker.  And while these problems were somewhat expected for DME providers, it is the unforeseen problems that are also having a grave effect.

“Long-time referral sources have turned to those companies that did [win a whole spectrum of contracts in Round 1]” said Georgie Blackburn, VP of government relations for Tarentum, Pennsylvania, whose company won two bids in Round 1 of the program.

Prizm Media Inc., a lead generation and direct response agency specializing in business to client relationships with DMEs for the last three years, has built its reputation on building valuable business partnerships with DMEs of all sizes, regardless of bids awarded in Round 1 of competitive bidding.

“We are loyal to our existing clients and strive to build long term relationships with all of our prospective clients.  By building trust in our working relationships, we are able to work together on the back end for higher conversions to help DMEs achieve their optimal ROI.” - Zeeshan Hayat, CEO of Prizm Media Inc. who raised his concerns with competitive bidding prior to the introduction of the bill with some of the top DMEs in the country at the LeadsCon conference in Las Vegas at the start of the month.

“Prizm Media will support DMEs in the full repeal of the Competitive Bidding program because we care for the well-being of our clients businesses and their patients.  We have to have a united front on the issue for change to happen.  It affects everybody.” – Caitlin Gillespie, Accounts Manager, Prizm Media.
