April 3, 2011 - PRLog -- imposing beautiful scenary of Villa Bighi in Kalkara between the 3rd and 10th April. The National Student Travel Foundation (NSTF) Malta has over the past years developed a Science Programme together with the Malta Chamber of Scientists and the Malta Council of Science and Technology to increase the interest of students in Science and Technology. The aim is to encourage them to take up a future in this sector. The NSTF Science week is the epitome of all the hard work put in by the numerous students taking part in all these programmes. This year it is being organised in collaboration with MCAST.

Ms Mariella-Pia Tabone, Head of Educational and Cultural Affairs at NSTF, said that “ the interest shown by schools in the various projects and the enthusiasm generated by the students was a testimony that all the students involved had taken their participation seriously and were now waiting to share their efforts with other like-minded students and the general public.”

Students from MCAST, Junior College and St. Aloysius Sixth Form participating in the National Contest for Young Scientists as well as various State, Church and Independent Secondary School students participating in the School Contest for Young Scientists will be exhibiting their scientific and technological projects. What is the award given? Besides owning an incredible sense of personal accomplishment, students with the winning projects will then go on to represent Malta at the EU Contest for Young Scientists in Helsinki, the Expo Science International in Slovakia and the Belgian Science Expo.

Come visit and show your support. A gesture which will surely be appreciated by all the students taking part in the competition. Schools are invited to visit throughout the week. Various interactive workshops organised by students from the MCAST Institute of Art and Design for students, are being coordinated as part of the Little Scientists Village. Further to their European Action on Drugs commitment, the Maltese Medical Student Association (MMSA) will be running interactive seminars to raise the awareness of teenagers on the risks of substance abuse. Smart Light Systems, proud sponsors of the NSTF School Contest for Young Scientists will also be giving a presentation about the future of energy saving lighting and their innovative contributions in this field.

Come share and experience the passion with which these students compiled and presented their own projects. The general public is invited to do so on Saturday 9th April between 3:00pm and 6:00pm.

NSTF would like to thank all those entities without whose help such an initiative would not be possible, namely the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), the Malta Chamber of Scientists, Smart Light Systems Ltd, Agenda Bookshop, V. & F. Portelli & Sons Ltd, MCAST Institute for Art and Design, the Maltese Medical Student Association and NSTS Student and Youth Travel.
