Pittsburgh law school offers its students flyer-stapling jobs,LawCrossing finds 22,000 student jobs.

March 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Pasadena, CA, March 24, 2011 – The University of Pittsburgh Law School let its career office put up a job opening of a flyer-stapler.

The posting quickly went viral and the college has apologized to its students for any “embarrassment or distress” that it caused. The career services office was able to find only 24 job openings on its site. One of which was an opening for a person required among other tasks, to post flyers outside concert halls.

The tough legal market for new-minted JDs has been making the rounds of law student blogs and websites, with Above The Law being the leader in pointing out the hard market that lies ahead. At least two New York law schools have planned on admitting fewer students this fall. Law school applications are also down by 11.5% compared to last year at this point. The Law School Admission Council Inc. has reported 66,876 applications for the fall 2011 class. That number is the lowest since 2001 during this admission stage.

The American Bar Association has also advised students planning to enter law school to weigh the risks of getting a JD. “The rising cost of a legal education and the realities of the legal job market mean that going to law school may not pay off" the ABA said in its 2009 report.

But in spite of the relatively harsh job market, law firms are still hiring thousands of attorneys and summer internships are also available.
