Build Your Dream House: Music Success

If building your music career is like building a house...why not build your Dream House?

March 24, 2011 - PRLog -- If you truly love the art of making music and want to get paid to do what you love then you should be willing to roll your sleeves up and build this house from the ground up.   The temptation to take short cuts will always be there, especially in the beginning.  However, those shortcuts will bite you when that hurricane comes, and believe it, the hurricanes are coming.   For those who are feeling like they’ve had their sleeves rolled up for a long time and their house seems to be crumbling then it may be time to revisit the original floor plan and design an even better house.  Below are three keys to building an impressive music dream house.

Find the Materials:

The importance of a team cannot be overstated.  Although you will wear a million hats before a house gets to the point of being built it is important to realize when it's time to get help.  To create great music the elements of production, mixing, mastering, songwriting, performance, and BUSINESS must be done with strong craftsmanship.  Conrad Dimanche, former A&R for BadBoy, says it well in the video below...

Build a Foundation:

Nobody wants to work with assholes.  Man, I hate to use the vulgarity here but no other adjective really does it justice.  Many think that being an asshole pays, it doesn’t.  That is short term thinking and as the builder of your house you want to build a solid foundation of integrity, work ethic, and talent.   Nothing brings down a house faster than unchecked egos, so beware.  It is important to clearly define roles as much as you can.  This is not to put some people up and others down (that’s ego talking), it should be done so that people can work efficiently and so that people are truly doing what they are best at.  CEO is just a title, and believe me most people don’t really want it.   Focus on the end game and making sure you build success and you’ll be doing like our friend Charlie Sheen....”Winning!”

Decorate:

Once you’ve built a solid foundation with strong materials then you can be free to do the fun part, decorate.  Decorating is where that creative music magic can really evolve.  You no longer have to worry about the plans, the walls, the insulation, and all the stuff most people are not willing to do...you did it already.  Now it’s time to have fun and make the creative music genius you’ve always known in your heart you had the ability to do.  I think that Grammy would look great right there over your fireplace...just sayin.
