St. John Osborn Health Center Conducting National Youth Violence Prevention Week Activities
March 21-25, 2011
DETROIT (March 22, 2011) – The National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) and The Guidance Group (www.guidance-
During this week-long national education initiative, various activities will demonstrate the positive role young people can have in making their schools and communities safer. The St. John Osborn SAVE Chapter, advised by Ramona Strong, will conduct a SAVE Rally on Thursday, March 24th of NYVPW in the Osborn Auditorium. The event will be held in two sessions: a 9:00 am session for the Osborn Upper School of Global Communications and Culture, and a 12:30 pm session for the Osborn Evergreen Academy of Design, Technology & Energy, Osborn Academy of Mathematics, Science & Technology, and Osborn College Preparatory Academy. Tables will be set up outside of the auditorium for vendors.
Thanks to the Allstate Foundation, the National Association of SAVE presented a grant to the St. John Osborn SAVE Chapter earlier this school year to increase youth safety and promote Teen Safe Driving. Local Allstate Agent Shauna Johnson will be assisting the chapter with this event. With support from Allstate agents and employee volunteers, SAVE chapters are providing leadership in their schools and communities to ensure that all students will be encouraged and empowered with healthy life skills while engaging in educational activities and opportunities to promote teen safe driving and youth safety.
“By empowering teens to become smart driving activists in their schools and communities, we hope to reverse the staggering statistics,”
Join the NYVPW campaign to show that our youth and our communities are committed to being violence-free!
About the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere:
SAVE started at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, N.C. in 1989 following the tragic death of a student who was trying to break up a fight at an off-campus party. Students met first to console each other, then as an organization to promote violence prevention and to work together to prevent future incidents from occurring. SAVE provides education about the effects and consequences of violence and helps provide safe activities for students, parents and communities. For more information on SAVE or starting a SAVE chapter, visit www.nationalsave.org, or contact SAVE at (866) 343-SAVE to receive free start-up materials and guidance.
