March 22, 2011 - PRLog -- The United States Mint announced last week that it expects to release a special series of uncirculated American Eagle silver coins this year for the first time since 2008.

Besides the normal proof American Eagle silver coins, the US Mint will be issuing 2011 silver uncirculated coins carrying a “W” mint mark signifying the West Point Mint. The normal silver American Eagle proof coins from the mint do not carry any mint mark.

Traditionally the mintage of uncirculated coins are substantially less than regular proof gold coins and silver coins. Because of this, many of these special gold coins and silver coins have carried a premium price, in addition to the metal value. Less than 9,000 of the 2008 gold American Eagle uncirculated coins were produced and in the secondary market they are receiving a $1000 premium.

The 2011 gold American Eagle uncirculated coins are scheduled for release on May 5 while the 2011 silver American Eagle coins are scheduled for release in early Fall.
