March 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Autism Movement Therapy, NFP, has announced the launch of its National AMT Certification Program that will train designated personnel at Parks & Recreation facilities around the country with the skills and knowledge to teach Autism Movement Therapy (AMT) to the local community. AMT is a fun form of therapy that incorporates music and movement in collaboration with Positive Behavior Support strategies to assist individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders in meeting and achieving their speech, language, social and academic goals.

AMT was created by Joanne Lara, an adjunct professor at National University in the department of Special Education in Los Angeles, California.

Temple Grandin, PhD subject of the Emmy and Golden Globe award winning HBO film Temple Grandin, says this about Lara and her program, "Programs like Joanne's Autism Movement Therapy offer opportunities for our kids to develop the necessary and fundamental skills that benefit all our kids.  Art saved my life!"

In January, Joanne presented the AMT Certification workshop in Chicago at the IAPD/IPRA CONFERENCE. Recreation Coordinator, Breane Cory, stated: “In the field of Therapeutic Recreation (TR) field, we are always looking for fun and innovative ways to help our participants and patrons reach their potential. I was thrilled when Joanne agreed to come to our Illinois Parks and Recreation Conference.  We had a blast! It didn’t matter what kind of background attendees had, dancer, TR Coordinator or parent; everyone took something away from Joanne’s sessions.”

The AMT Certification Training Workshops are designed to take place on-site at Parks & Recreation facilities and are offered as a 2 day certification or 1 full 8 hour day, to complete.

“My goal is to make Autism Movement Therapy available to children across the country,” commented Joanne Lara.  “We can bring our workshop to Parks & Recreation facilities and train and certify directors, instructors, teachers and volunteers in your organization to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge of this proven program that they in turn can pass along to the autism and special needs community in the form of a 45 minute structured fun movement and music class.”
