Health Official: Western Airstrikes Kill 64 In Libya

March 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Tripoli, March 20 (Xinhua) - Sixty people were killed and 150 injured in air strikes launched by the Western powers since Saturday, the Libyan health officials said Sunday.

Western warplanes bombed civilian targets in Tripoli, causing accidents, state television reported.

Several tanks were also affected, he said.

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has called on Western attacks as a "crusade" against the Libyan people, saying that air strikes were designed to "intimidate the Libyan people" and were "terrorist means."

Gadhafi pledged to pull out a victory against Western forces, which began on Saturday to launch air strikes against his troops, saying that Western forces will be defeated.

All the Libyan people gathered and provided weapons, ready for a long war "in the country," he said in a brief audio message carried by state television in Libya.

France conducted the first four airstrikes, while the U.S. Army 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired by U.S. and British ships and submarines in 20 coastal targets Libya.

Western forces have also launched a new wave of airstrikes Sunday.
