March 19, 2011 - PRLog -- BRASOV, Romania, March 19, 2011 -- CNN Hero award nomination for Daria Trifu has been submitted today by Artist, Published Author and Actress, Leeorah Hursky (http://www.leeorahhursky.com/leeorah-hursky/) from Cape Town, South Africa

(Leeorah Hursky): Daria is one of the world’s youngest film producers at the age of 29, working together with Bruno Pischiutta of Toronto Pictures. Together they tackle subjects that most avoid. The topics they have covered, amongst others are female genital mutilation in their film PUNCTURED HOPE, bulimia and anorexia in MAYBE and now she is tirelessly working to raise money for their latest film- ABUSED IN AMERICA. As a team they are fearless warriors going where most won’t dare go. Daria is a role model for Romanian girls returning after 10 years to her hometown, Brasov, to film her latest movie.

In Canada she is the president of Adhara Properties Inc. since 2003. In 2005 she created the magazine ‘Daria!’. Since 2001 she is the Vice President of the public company Toronto Pictures Inc. (TTOPF). In 2005 she founded the Toronto Pictures Film Academy of Ghana. She is Celebrity Ambassador for Humanity Healing Foundation (USA). Ten percent of profits of the films produced by Daria are channeled back into the community. In Ghana, the money is being used to build infrastructures in a village, and profits from ABUSED IN AMERICA will go to the Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services in Pasadena California (center for rehabilitation of young offenders).

Daria has always believed in social responsibility and entrepreneurship. She trusts her knowledge and resources to make a difference and an impact on the world. Daria believes that the world barriers are shifting and the world is becoming one. As a result, she employs people from all walks of life and all countries. She is unhampered by barriers.

Daria and Bruno are currently creating the Film Academy of Swaziland in Southern Africa as well as the Brasov International Film Festival & Market and the Brasov Film Center (Transylvania, Romania).

PUNCTURED HOPE brought awareness to the world about the terrible plight of females in West Africa. Daria undertook a great risk to her live to complete this film. The film was made with the mission of helping to stop female slavery and genital mutilation. Twenty nine Trokosi shrines were closed by the police in Ghana as a result of the production of the film. Punctured Hope was an Official Selection at the World Film Festival in Montreal and it was qualified for the 2010 Academy Awards® in the category of “Best Picture”. The film was nominated by The Political Film Society in Hollywood, CA in two categories: “Best Film Expose” and “Best Film on Human Rights” of 2009 – other films nominated in the same categories include AVATAR, THE HURT LOCKER, INVICTUS and INGLORIOUS BASTERDS.

The feature film MAYBE opened the publics eyes to the trauma of eating disorders. A real challenge that torments many families.

From my first contact with Daria, she invited myself and all the other actors and crew into the production as though we were family. She created trust and confidence even before filming has begun. She holds the reigns together with Bruno in such a noble manner. I truly salute her for her tireless efforts to bring change to the world and to many people’s lives.
