What: Costumed celebrants will commemorate the festive holiday of Purim with a traditional reading of the Megillah in an untraditional location--outside the Iranian UN Mission. Participants will use their whistles and groggers (noisemakers)
Why: Purim is the Jewish holiday commemorating the deliverance of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from destruction at the hands of Haman. As Iran is the modern Persia and its president Ahmadinejad is seen by many to be the modern Haman, American Jewish Groups are uniting this Purim to draw attention Iran’s frightening policies towards Israel and the Jewish people.
Who: Representatives of Americans for a Safe Israel, Amcha-Coalition for Jewish Concerns, Jewish Political Education Foundation, and ZSTREET plus Jews and non-Jews alike who are concerned by the anti-Semitic rhetoric and policies of the current Iranian regime
When: Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Noon, local time
Where: Iranian UN Mission, 633 Third Avenue at 40th Street, Manhattan.
