March 18, 2011 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY - If you are looking for the easiest way to hail a taxi, check out cabFLARE. cabFLARE, a free, location-aware, direct referral service, provides consumers and businesses a quick and simple alternative to hailing a taxi.

Consumers can launch cabFLAREs - virtual flares - to broadcast that they need a ride. Drivers can use their smartphone to detect and respond to cabFLAREs. No calls, no dispatch, no doormen, no hassles. Just a first to respond, nearest available driver, on-demand, direct referral service, without any middlemen.

"Many mobile solutions available to find a taxi focus on a company or a driver and provide elaborate, non-sensical rating systems", says Gregg Olin, co-founder and manager of cabFLARE. "We found that the problem isn’t the lack of user-rated taxi drivers or extending the ability to  book a taxi to a mobile phone, as many taxi company websites already allowed for that, but rather it is finding the nearest ride when none are in sight, regardless of company or driver.  Do I really care if ‘Bob’ is available, or will I take a ride from the first driver responding to me that already knows where I want to go?”

cabFLARE is unique among taxi apps, as it can leverage Twitter’s API to provide status updates via your Twitter screen name, and offers eventFLAREs, for businesses or others to request multiple cars.

Implemented as a self service, mobile web application, cabFLARE does not require personal information or registration from the consumer. Drivers do need to register with cabFlare in order to respond to consumer requests. cabFLARE does not require access to contacts, phone state, or other personal data on your device, unlike many mobile applications.

“cabFLARE isn’t designed to replace all the other ways consumers locate a ride, but it does provide a free and simple alternative to broadcast your need to any driver or dispatcher willing to listen”, Olin stated. “We can easily integrate with existing dispatch and in-car systems, but didn’t want to wait to see if both drivers and consumers will help each other make their own local market more efficient.”
