By: Martin Aguilara JOSHUA TREE, 1951: A PORTRAIT OF JAMES DEAN stars James Preston (ABC’s “The Gates”) as the titular film screen legend, and also features Dan Glenn, Dalilah Rain, Edward Singletary, Jr., Erin Daniels, and newcomer Rafael Morais. Taking on a bold new vision of the iconic outsider’s life, JOSHUA TREE, 1951: A PORTRAIT OF JAMES DEAN focuses its narrative on James Dean’s formative years in Los Angeles before he achieved notoriety. The film blends biographical and imagined elements as it fearlessly examines Dean’s life and sexuality. The film is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Matthew Mishory, whose short film DELPHINUM: A CHILDHOOD PORTRAIT OF DEREK JARMAN played at dozens of film festivals, museums, and galleries worldwide, and won several awards. It was most recently acquired by the British Film Institute for preservation in the National Film Archive, a feat unheard of for short films and new filmmakers alike. Cinematographer Michael Marius Pessah will be lensing on 35mm, with costumes by Emmy nominee Rob Saduski, and musical score by Arban and Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees). The award-winning production team includes producers Edward Singletary, Jr., Randall Walk, and Robert Zimmer, Jr. (Half-Life, Official Selection, Sundance Film Festival 2008). JOSHUA TREE, 1951: A PORTRAIT OF JAMES DEAN was first developed at the Transatlantic Talent Laboratory at the Reykjavik International Film Festival in Iceland. The film will begin its international festival run in late 2011 or early 2012.
