Site receives massive traffic surge after a single social media posting

How one niche site learned to generate hundreds and thousands of unique visits each time they post something to their website and blog. Smashed traffic records. Increased conversions. Generated more profits all without paying a dime.

March 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Plenty of SEO, no engagement

First we saw how, initially, Ranktracer's mindset focussed on their content postings from their own point of view. In other words, they were talking about their demo sales tracking webpage without giving readers something to dig their teeth into. After all, nearly every good website has a free demo - it's not really newsworthy in itself.

We identified the problem as a lack of engaging content. So that depsite writing many articles, press releases and blogs that were properly SEO enhanced and well structured, people simply weren't interested.
The solution

After analyzing their overall predicament and, after doing some research, we were able to set some targets and goals and change the focus of the social marketing content. Now, instead of writing large amounts of SEO content with no clear goals (other than a vague desire to drum up traffic), Ranktracer had realized that they:

  1. had something really interesting to share in the form of their unique sales statistics for popular titles sold on Amazon
  2. specific targets and goals to ensure their content was correctly focussed
  3. A solid SEO enhanced, socially integrated platform for disseminating their content
  4. Proper analytics in place to measure the effects of their social media marketing efforts

Drum roll please...

Now we come to the magic bit. After averaging around 30 - 40 new visitors each day through organic search results arising from the SEO content they had created, they took a single statistic, generated through their service and freely available on their demo sales analytics account, and posted it to several of their newly discovered social networks.
The social media post

This is what they posted to their LinkedIn groups, Reddit, Stumbleupon and a few more:

'Life of Pi' sells approx 51 units per day on Amazon.com. Powered by ranktracer.com

In one afternoon they received in excess of 500 visits

Not only that, but their conversion level (as discussed earlier in the course) was high because:

   * they chose to share information on a popular book that people would be interested in
   * the posting mentioned that the stat was powered by ranktracer.com so users were expecting to go to that site when they clicked the link
   * the stat is unique and unusual - something that no-one else in the world (apart from Amazon themselves) can provide
   * the message is simple and clear
   * the demo webpage linked to from the social media post is focused and simple - perfect for high conversion rates
   * the stat is a great conversation starter, leading to more traffic as more people join the discussion

Needless to say that this was manna from heaven for the niche interest site. I guess it's also important to point out that this figure in itself could have been orders of magnitude bigger. There sky really is the limit when it comes to hitting the social media sweetspot.
