March 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Deciding to tile your kitchen countertops is a good idea and there are many tile options out there in which to choose from. It really depends on your budget as to which tiles you opt for and some materials are more expensive than others.
Laminate was once a popular choice for countertops and is certainly a cheaper option but laminate can scratch and mark easily.
Ceramic Tiles are a real favourite and come in many different styles, designs and colours which will suit almost any decor. Ceramic tiles are incredibly durable and selecting a darker grout colour can help disguise any marks and spillages. Larger ceramic tiles are more popular for kitchen countertops and it is almost certainly a good idea to seal tiles on kitchen countertops in order to minimise the damage from spillages and accidents.
Porcelain tiles are another great choice for kitchen countertops are also incredibly durable, they also come in a wide variety of colours and styles and gone are the days when home owners stick to the usual rule of white tiles. More vibrant colours are now being used in many homes as home owners become more comfortable with experimenting with different colours and styles.
Granite is another option but are a more expensive material, granite will add elegance and style to any home and are considered a luxury. There are many different colours when it comes to granite and it is really important that you choose the right one for you. The colour you choose needs to blend in with any existing decor in the kitchen area.  Granite tiles are excellent in high heat surfaces and will give a finish that will last a lifetime although it almost always better to seal granite countertops to minimise the damage from spillages and accidents.
Wood countertops are a good choice for countertops and will add a real warm, cosy feeling to any kitchen, Maple and oak are just some of the woods used on countertops. Wood countertops are also easily maintained and can be re sanded and resealed over time. The downside to wood countertops is that they can stain and become worn and scratched over time but as long as you are prepared to maintain these surfaces, they are definitely a good choice.
Whatever countertop you decide on, take the time to choose wisely when selecting the material, if chose wisely, you kitchen countertops will last a lifetime.
