March 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Following the commercial success in the American market of Tom Carter’s critically-acclaimed photography book CHINA: Portrait of a People, prospective foreign and translation rights literary agents are being invited to represent this title abroad.

“CHINA: Portrait of a People has proven itself with critics as well as consumers in China and America, so we are now ready to release this popular title overseas,” said Carter’s publishers at Blacksmith Books, Hong Kong.  “We are especially interested in having the book translated in Europe, Asia and Latin America, including but not limited to France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Mexico, Korea and Japan.  Interested international foreign and translation rights sub-agents or book publishers should contact us immediately.”

American travel photographer Tom Carter spent two years backpacking 56,000 kilometers across China to create CHINA: Portrait of a People.  At 640 pages and over 800 images, it is considered the most comprehensive book of photography on modern China ever published by a single author.

CHINA: Portrait of a People debuted in America in 2010 to strong sales and enthusiastic word-of-mouth; at present it is ranked #1 in the Asia category for photography books on Amazon.com.

Media attention for CHINA: Portrait of a People:

“Getting a full picture of China – a vast country with an enormous population, a place that is experiencing sweeping cultural and economic changes – is, of course, impossible. But Tom Carter comes close. ... It's a remarkable book, compact yet bursting with images that display the diversity of a nation of 56 ethnic groups.” – San Francisco Chronicle

“There are a number of shots in this book that could easily grace the pages of National Geographic ... Unless you want to undertake your own two-year trek through some of the mainland's most difficult terrain to take your own shots, this is a study well worth having on your bookshelf.” – South China Morning Post

“A striking, kaleidoscopic vision of China's lands and people, covering all 33 provinces. Carter's grassroots approach to photography gives the book an intensely personal quality." – The Beijinger

“Part of the strength of this book is its independent spirit. … This is an honest work.” – China Daily

“Tom Carter shows us that there are actually dozens of Chinas. The American photojournalist spent two years traveling 35,000 miles through every province of China by bus, boat, train, mule, motorcycle, and on foot.” – Christian Science Monitor
