The organisation's JobsOutlook report found that 35 per cent of the firms questioned said they plan to increase their temporary workforce in the long term. This compares to just 22 per cent a year ago.
Commenting on the latest figures, Roger Tweedy, the REC’s director of research, said: "It is a very positive sign that private sector employers are continuing to look to temporary staff to offer them flexibility while there is still concern over the UK economy."
Earlier this month, the REC/KPMG Report on Jobs showed that demand for temporary/contractor staff rose significantly in January.
According to the study, temporary/contract staff billings both rose at its faster rate in seven month, while the number of such workers available for positions also increased during January.
