Biological Contaminants in the Home Exposed in New Public Outreach Video

March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Today the IAQ Video Network released the 13th in a series of public outreach videos meant to educate families about important environmental and indoor air quality issues.  The public outreach videos have all been produced in the past year covering everything from mold and Legionella to the latest video entitled Biological Contaminants in the Home.

The typical home is full of biological contaminants.  They include bacteria, mold and mildew, viruses, animal dander and cat saliva, house dust mites, cockroaches and pollen.  If there are sensitized or susceptible individuals in the home, or when these contaminants are at elevated levels, people can become sick.

“There are many sources of these biological pollutants in the average home,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network.  “Some biological contaminants trigger allergic reactions and some types of asthma.  Health problems caused by biological pollutants include sneezing, watery eyes, coughing, breathing problems, dizziness, lethargy, fever and digestive problems.  Children, elderly people, and people with breathing problems, allergies, and lung diseases are particularly susceptible to disease-causing biological agents in the indoor air.”
