March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) patients participated in a Learn to Golf clinic taught by golf and allied healthcare professionals specially trained to teach children with physical challenges.  Junior golfers learned about golf safety, etiquette, driving, chipping and putting.

TSRHC’s Learn to Golf program is designed for patients with challenging physical conditions. Learn to Golf provides the tools and instruction needed for patients to participate in and reap the rehabilitative benefits of the game.

The Learn to Golf program has received support from the United States Golf Association (USGA), PGA TOUR Charities, Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation, Northern Texas PGA and other generous donors.

Vincent Pierce, age 9 of Golden, Texas has been a patient at TSRHC since he was a few months old and is treated for achondroplasia, a type of congenital bone-growth disorder. This was Vincent’s third time to participate in a Learn to Golf clinic. Through the Learn to Golf program, Vincent has taken some golf lessons and now enjoys going to the driving range near his home. Last summer, he played in the KidSwing Golf Tournament that benefited TSRHC and hopes to play in it again this summer. Vincent is involved in Cub Scouts, enjoys theater and plays a variety of sports.
