There are lots of different ways to learn guitar chords.  You first start with a chord dictionary that you can get in any music store or your local bookstore.  To be more convenient, you can just make do the research on the internet. You should first focus on three or four first in the first position and at the topmost portion of the guitar where the strings are attached.  Beginner musical notes are the A, E, D, G, and C chords. If your guide book has illustrations, study how the fingers are positioned.  You actually make an imaginary practice play by just memorizing these chords.  Once you have gained some knowledge about the basic chords, try them out with simple guitar songs. Once you have mastered the simple chords, you can go on and try more new songs and then do the same procedure over again.

Constructing your own chord out of a scale can follow.  It can be more intensive just as long as you already know the basics.  By knowing all there is to know about guitar chords, you will be able to construct your own chord in different scales and locations.

When you study guitar chords, many people say that just by looking at a guitarist playing will already give you an idea of how it should be done.  You can go online to watch different videos for this.  Study how they position the fingers, the chording and the pausing.  Watching videos is a well known way of learning how to play guitar.

Study your scales first then proceed from there.  Start with the basic chords and once you have mastered them, use some music sheet to make a visual representation of what you have learned.  This will not only help you in memorizing guitar chords but will also help you master different techniques in playing the guitar.  Learn guitar chords slowly and you are on your way to becoming a guitar player.
