By: Sidbrook Estates Located on King Street East in Downtown Cobourg, this modern and exclusive condominium development will push the limits of condo conversion with its sleek design, modern look and heritage preservation. "It’s an architectural gem" says Evan Karras, owner of Sidbrook. "You just don't see many structures like this and we wanted to make sure that it was preserved for the future." The Suite interiors will feature euro-style modern luxuries with the rich historic details of the mansion restored, giving each unit its own unique piece of Sidbrook's rich and unique history. Sidbrook is a rare surviving example of an early Victorian villa in Cobourg and also an example of the grand summer houses that once lined Cobourg Streets. "Its a very unique project", says Addy Saeed, real estate sales representative with RE/MAX tasked with marketing the project. "It offers buyers an opportunity to purchase a modern and sleek home with a historic back drop." The elegant interiors of Sidbrook Estates (located at 411 King Street East) are a unique melding of historic architectural elements with the latest and most luxurious of finishes and specifications. The interiors are designed by Robin De Groot Design, while the historical preservation work was completed by the prestigious firm ERA Architects (www.era.on.ca) # # # Sidbrook "Villa" was originally built on 100 acres of land for Cobourg Railway Director, Henry Mason, in 1857 and had only two floors with a flat roof. In 1868, the structure was altered with the help of the World renowned Toronto architect, Kivas Tully (who also designed Cobourg's Victoria Hall) who added the High Italianate design and massive west wing. The third floor of the building was added in 1900 by William Abbott of Pittsburgh, an associate of industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who also added the "Beau-arts" Corinthian portico with balcony and its one-storey Corinthian porch and countless stunning interior finishes including its majestic 3 storey staircase.
