 Alberta Health System Review Raises Concerns with Quality Council of AlbertaThe Quality Council of Alberta is concerned with the announcement by the Alberta Government to have the Health Quality Council of Alberta conduct a review of the health care system in response to recent allegations.
By: Quality Council of Alberta (QCA) March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- While beyond the mandate of The Quality Council of Alberta (QCA) to recommend a particular approach to investigating recent allegations concerning the Alberta health care system, the QCA is concerned with the recent decision of the Government to charter The Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA) to perform this task.
On two previous occasions, the QCA reviewed the research work of the HQCA describing it as "junk science". This included the HQCA's 'Satisfaction and Experience with Health Care Services: A Survey of Albertans' and 'The Urban and Regional Emergency Department Patient Experience Report 2009'. As the QCA stated previously: "It is important that faulty conclusions, misinterpretation of data, poor research/statistical technique and other forms of evidence corruption not be allowed to drive change in Alberta’s health care system". While our criticisms were, and remain, with the quality of these two studies and not with the HQCA as an organization, the QCA does not believe the past efforts of the HQCA have demonstrated the level of quality that would warrant entrusting it with this new, and what is bound to be very important, investigative effort into the Alberta health care system. If Albertan's are to receive an unbiased, independent and accurate assessment of recent allegations, another mechanism by which to conduct this review is required. There is no association between the Quality Council of Alberta (QCA) and the Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA). The QCA was created by the Government of Alberta in cooperation with industry in 1991. The mission of the QCA is promoting Quality in Alberta's private and public sectors.
