For the first time, the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation is holding its International Institute and Symposium in Texas.  This year’s symposium will be held at the University of Texas at Austin and is being hosted by The Autism Project.  The Foundation and The Autism Project will be bringing speakers from across the field of sensory processing to present on research, diagnosis and treatment.

Recent research regarding the co-morbidity of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and other clinical conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorders will be presented.  Several studies have noted that the prevalence of sensory problems is quite high in children with developmental disabilities as well as those in foster care or post-institutionalization.  Leading researchers and clinicians will discuss the emerging theories and techniques to best address the complexity of issues for children with co-morbid SPD.

The Institute and Symposium keynote speakers:

Sharon Cermak, EdD, OTR, FAOTA
Professor, Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, University of Southern California

Carol Kranowitz, MA
Author, The Out-of-Sync Child; Editor-in-Chief, SI Focus magazine

Lucy Jane Miller, PhD, OTR
Founder & Executive Director, Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation; Founder & Director, STAR Center; Author, Sensational Kids: Hope and Help for Children with SPD

Aage Møller, PhD
University of Texas at Dallas, Department of Behavioral and Brain Sciences

Sensory Processing Disorder interferes with the way sensory information (e.g., touch, taste, sight, smell, sound, movement) is received by the brain and translated/integrated into appropriate behavior.  The Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation, a 501(c)3, is a world leader in research, education, and advocacy for SPD and has been providing hope and help to individuals and families living with SPD.
