New Website Set To Bring The Local Community Together With Odd Job Opportunists

A new website called MyJobsAtHome.com, launched locally in Luton, is poised to revolutionise the way domestic ‘odd-jobs’ are handled in the community and become the ‘ultimate resource’ for part-time odd-job opportunists. The site offers a one-stop-shop for the advertising of services and odd-job requirements, making it easier than ever for the thousands of people who search the web looking for local work.

MyJobsAtHome.com uses ‘Jobbers’ (‘a person who does casual or occasional work’) as the term for anyone who is advertising services, for example; childminding, cleaning, or tree surgery. It provides people with the opportunity to use their skills by becoming ‘Jobbers’ and for others to post odd-job requirements for the Jobbers to view. Everything from ironing, hairdressing and gardening, through to children’s entertainment, cake making and dog walking is catered for. No job is too small, or too odd!

The new website was launched in 2011. It takes the best parts of existing work-related sites and amalgamates them into a fresh, well laid out, ergonomic, simple and intuitive website. It is being run at no cost to the community, with the site focused on offering the service rather than making profits. The designers have purposely avoided ‘cluttering’ the site with ads and links to third parties; which is refreshing in today’s money-driven eCommerce marketplace.

Founders Paul and Emma Bateman, whose professional background is in IT consultancy and Web support for large international organisations retrospectively, saw a gap in the local community for a quick and ‘hassle free’ portal that connects individuals who can offer local services with those in the community who need jobs done. Work began on www.MyJobsAtHome.com in late 2010, co-founder Emma Bateman stated: ‘there has been a lot of time spent and many sleepless nights working on the development! We are very satisfied with the result’

Here’s how it works: First, you’ll go to the http://www.MyJobsAtHome.com homepage and ‘post a job’ requirement or create Jobber profiles to advertise services. Jobbers can see a list of odd-job requirements in the area and even set up optional e-mail alerts for specific job categories. Other users can also search the Jobbers list to find a recommended person who can help with their odd-job. It’s that simple. Jobbers are able to gradually build a reputation from reviews by satisfied customers, making it easier for the consumer to pick the right person and provide peace of mind.

Co-founder Paul Bateman states: ‘we are not getting involved with the individual financial transactions, nor are we trying to profit from the site, we are purely offering the medium for people to get connected’. This website also offers pre-printed flyers to take around your neighbourhood to spread the word.
