10-City College Tour Homeless Awareness Film Chicago, Atlanta...

March 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The Thank God for the Shelter LIVE College Tour provides a candid look at “the new face of homelessness’ in America today. College students, youth and entrepreneurs are joining the homeless population at a growing rate.  This theatrical presentation promotes sensitivity to people in transition while revealing simple practices that may be used to encourage stability, allowing for strategic moves toward regaining self-sufficiency. The 2011 Thank God for the Shelter LIVE College Tour will take place March – November in the following cities; Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Birmingham, Dallas, Trenton, Harlem and the District of Columbia.

During our nation’s economic turnaround, students can learn from someone who is directly connected to the issue of poverty and homelessness and who can share real life experiences and solutions to the problem. Versandra Kennebrew, a once homeless advocate, speaker and author of “Thank God for the Shelter: Memoirs of a homeless healer” has been visiting shelters, churches and transitional homes since 2008 sharing her story of triumph over adversity. This tour will inspire, empower and educate approximately ten thousand college students who are studying to become human service professionals, sociologists, psychologists and other professionals who may directly come in contact with the homeless population.
