Over two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight, and over one-third are obese, according to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003–2006 and 2007–2008. Overweight and obesity are risk factors for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, as well as other health problems; there has also been an increase in health care costs for the treatment of obesity-related health problems.
One key ingredient in long term weight control comes from receiving encouragement and support from others. Rocchio has assembled a team of healthcare professionals who understand that weight loss involves more than physical efforts. “The majority of individuals who lose weight and can keep it off are successful because they understand the mind/body connection,”
The team consists of Dr. Rocchio, a registered dietitian, a nurse practitioner, a counselor, and a life coach. Each member of the team brings their expertise in each of their respective roles.
Dr. Beth Rocchio, trained in family medicine, found herself 60 lbs. overweight after medical school and motherhood. She used a mind/body approach to begin her own recovery from overeating, and has lost and kept off those 60 lbs. since 2003. For the last four years prior to creating the center, Dr. Rocchio had her own practice dedicated to helping patients achieve permanent weight loss, including those with compulsive overeating and food addiction. She serves as the director of the center and supervises all of the programs and services.
Mary Jane Euell is a registered dietitian, licensed diabetic nutritionist, and certified diabetes educator who also has a master’s degree in counseling. She works with individual patients to develop an eating plan that helps to address the various “triggers”
Patrice French is a weight loss management nurse practitioner who joined the practice because of her passion about developing healthy lifestyles. She is an avid marathoner who helps patients to understand the role of exercise in their weight management efforts.
Maria Sorensen is a psychotherapist who holds a master of arts degree in holistic counseling. She is also a licensed chemical dependency professional, a certified substance abuse professional, and is an EMDR-certified expressive arts therapist.
Gina Colvario Krupka is a certified life coach and the manager of the Ideal Protein weight loss method at the center. Colvario Krupka has a personal understanding of losing weight and keeping it off; she has lost over 150 lbs. Through the Ideal Protein program’s combination of diet, coaching and support, individuals have lost over 1,100 lbs. since it began in 2010.
The center offers a comprehensive approach to weight loss efforts, and realizes that each individual patient has unique needs that must be met in order to be successful in the long term. As such, services at the center include nutrition counseling, physical activity coaching, behavior modification, the use of appetite suppressants if warranted, counseling regarding bariatric surgery, mind/body medicine, holistic psychotherapy, life coaching and the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method. “It really is all about achieving balance in our lives,” adds Dr. Rocchio, who is especially passionate about helping people whose weight problem is a symptom of compulsive overeating or food addiction.
