PRLog -- "Whose fault is it when a artist gives the label not only a #1 hit but there first to p40 #1 in label history? Sells 2 million in singles in less than 3 months. Who should be held responsible when an artist has a history for selling records ... its not like a new artist and no one knows his or her name? ... Maybe no one wants to hear music from that artist? Well if that was true then the artist would not have a #1 song! Maybe no one is checking for the artist anymore? Well if that was true then how do you explain selling 2 million singles n 2.5 months? I care less about haters u can't hate on a #1song and 2.5 million in singles! ...someone needs to holdup their end of the partnership!
If you only ship 200 thousand of a hit album how many are even trying to sell? The artist does not control that nor does he or she control marketing... !So when you hear folks say they didnt know it was out,o r there were hardly any in the store! WTF?" The preceding was tweeted recently by Nelly but he is not the only artist confused as to why labels are undershipping albums with a large number of potential sales.The fact of the matter is, music retail is dying. It is a digital world now and there are many reasons for this and although Hip Hop is still the most influential type of music for today’s youth and has indelibly marked pop culture. The labels are worried unlike other genres of music 70-80% of hip hop music is still sold in stores and not digitally online. If Hip Hop does not get hip to the world of cyber marketing Where does that leave the artist with the major record deal if there is no music in the store and its not just the labels thousands of record store mom and pop variety have closed due to the availability of music online. Justin Beiber the hottest ticket musically would not exist without facebook and Myspace.Where does that leave the artist that just needs distribution?
