About Mixed Martial Arts (MMA):

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that enables participants to use multiple types of martial arts in competitive matches.  In one match, you can witness fighters utilizing wrestling, judo, Muay Thai kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The MMA combatants compete using techniques from these distinct forms of fighting inside an eight-sided cage. The only way to win is to knock out the opponent, force them to tap out employing a submission, or to succeed by the decision of the judges.  MMA competitions were introduced in the United States with the first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993.  The sport gained international exposure and widespread publicity when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie handily won the first Ultimate Fighting Championship tournament by subduing three challengers in a total of just five minutes, sparking a revolution in the martial arts.  The sport reached a new peak of popularity in North America in December 2006 for the rematch between then UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and former champion Tito Ortiz.  The match rivaled the Pay-Per-View sales of some of the biggest boxing events of all time.
