March 10, 2011 - PRLog -- We treat every pet as if it were a member of our own family. Need a dog or cat doctor?  Our caring staff of veterinarians and technicians are trained to handle every situation with empathy whether its your fuzzy feline friend or your best canine sidekick.

Although we care for pets primarily by appointment, walk-ins are accommodated and will be seen as time allows. Like humans, animals do not synchronize their illnesses with an appointment book, and procedures can sometimes take longer than planned, so an occasional appointment delay can occur. To schedule an appointment please call our office during normal business hours at 404-351-5960.

We are one of the largest boarding facilities within the Atlanta city limits. We have the capacity to house nearly 150 animals. This includes a variety of options such as indoor/ outdoor runs for your pet. We also have climate-controlled areas. We encourage you to come and view the facility prior to boarding your loved one.

Comprehensive Physical Exam

Early detection of health problems can allow for prompt treatment. At least once, and perhaps twice per year, your pet should have a complete physical examination. Remember, your pet’s lifespan is shorter than ours and their health can change significantly over a 12-month period.

Declaw

The cat is placed under general anesthesia for the surgery. Many times it is recommended to couple the surgery with the cat’s spaying or neutering. This way the cat does not have to go under anesthesia a second time. A tourniquet is used to cut the blood supply to the paw. The claw is surgically removed, along with the cells responsible for growth.

Dental Services and Teeth Cleaning

Our clients have become aware of the fact that it’s just as important to have their pets’ teeth examined and cleaned on a regular basis as it is to protect their own teeth and gums. Our specialized services include cleaning, polishing, tooth extraction, and oral surgery. In addition to preventing bad breath and periodontal disease it can also prevent infection from spreading through the blood stream to your pet’s liver, kidneys, and heart. This bacterial shower can lead to permanent organ damage affecting your pet’s overall health.

Diagnostic Laboratory Testing

Our extensive laboratory services provide information that is critical to the sick or injured pet. We have access to both an in-house and centralized reference laboratory for extensive diagnostic testing, allowing animals to receive appropriate treatment in a timely manner.

Dietary Planning

A sound diet is vital to the health of your pet at any age. Let’s discuss what your pet needs – including dietary requirements essential for proper weight maintenance, performance, growth, and as an aid in the treatment of some diseases at every stage.

Entropion

Similar to a human eye lift. It rolls the lower eyelid out and reduces rubbing of the eyelid on surface of eye.

Geriatric Counseing

Your pet is considered to be a senior at the age of seven. There is no better time to do a geriatric profile that includes complete comprehensive blood work, and a complete urinalysis. This is important for a number of reasons. Things can start to change internally at seven or older, and the geriatric profile will reveal these changes. We can often correct or improve these changes just through dietary changes.

Grooming

Scheduling regular baths should be a part of your pet’s health regimen, it is essential in keeping your pet comfortable and free of fleas.

Nutritional Counseling

We carry prescription diet foods and special low fat treats. Please check with your veterinarian for information regarding your pets specific nutritional needs.

Pet Identification and Microchip System

A microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is implanted beneath a pet’s skin between the shoulder blades, and stays there for the pet’s entire life. This procedure is as easy and as painless as a vaccination.

Each microchip has a unique number. This number, along with information about the owner and pet, are added to a national pet registry. Most veterinary hospitals and animal shelters have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these implanted microchips. If a lost pet is found and a microchip is scanned the registry is called and the owner can be contacted.

Pharmacy

We stock an extensive drug inventory so medications can be dispensed before leaving the clinic.

Puppy and Kitten Examinations and Vaccinations

Young puppies and kittens should receive their physical examination and first set of vaccinations at six to nine weeks of age. Additional exams and vaccinations are given every two to four weeks until they are twelve to sixteen weeks old. Thereafter regular booster vaccinations should be given. During your pet’s initial examinations you will also receive behavioral advice, nutritional counseling, and recommendations on disease prevention. This advice can go a long way towards preventing problems in your pet’s adult life.

Radiology

We have a state-of-the-art x-ray machine that produces excellent quality radiographs (X-rays). Radiographs are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical problems.

Senior Pet Care and Geriatric Pet Evaluations

In recent years, great strides have been made in recognizing the special needs and requirements of our “senior citizen” dogs and cats. Our veterinarians are well equipped with the knowledge and diagnostic tools to identify age related problems and formulate realistic strategies to allow our pets to live longer and healthier lives. If your dog is seven to nine years of age or older (depending on breed) or your cat is ten years of age or older, it is now in its geriatric years. We will be happy to discuss with you our recommendations for geriatric testing and geriatric diets.

Soft Tissue Surgery

This includes laceration repair from accidents, bite wounds, cuts from metal or glass.

Spay & Neuter

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there are not enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them.

Spay and neuter your pet! In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet’s health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become fat or lazy when they are spayed or neutered is a myth. Sterilized pets lead healthier, longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of prostate disease and testicular cancer. Neutering also makes your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.

Tumor Removal

This includes submitting tumor sections for histopath which would inform doctor of invassiveness of tumor and further treatment i.e. chemotheraphy.

Vaccinations & Preventative Medicine

One of the most effective ways of protecting your pet’s health is to provide immunization against various common and sometimes deadly diseases. Our policy is to provide the best well-tested combinations of protection for your pet.

Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM)

A structural/spinal adjustment technique that can cure a range of ailments.
