March 10, 2011 - PRLog -- HOLLYWOOD, CA (March 9, 2010) – The Los Angeles Film School (LAFS) continues to meet with representatives of the Hollywood Farmers Market (HFM) and City officials to address the important needs of the market, the school and the community they share.

LAFS officials are encouraged by progress made during city-led, bi-weekly meetings and the review of various relocation options proposed by HFM for shifting the market to a location that ensures the school’s students, faculty and staff will be able to safely access the campus seven days a week.  The school also remains open to all options despite an initial business review showing that joining two of its parking structures would be a very costly short-term solution.  “We’re confident this process will deliver a long-term solution that accommodates the growth of the school as well as the market,” said VP of Marketing, Albert Villalta.

“We’ve been fortunate to experience a significant boom in our student population over the past 18 months and hope to continue providing a world-class education, while giving back to the local Hollywood economy,” added Villalta. “We estimate the school’s impact to the local Hollywood economy to be upwards of $150 - $200 million dollars since 1999, and we’ll continue to support the community and lend our full support to help HFM find the best alternative to foster their future growth as well.”

The private, post-secondary degree-granting college, has quickly become a leading academic center for aspiring filmmakers, animators, game producers and recording engineers, and boasts Academy Award and Grammy award winners and nominees alike.

Its campus is comprised of four buildings with over 250,000 square feet dedicated to labs, studios and theaters equipped with the latest technology including Avid, ProTools and Digidesign.  Its production facilities have previously been used by legendary artists such as Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Henry Mancini and John Williams, who recorded the orchestral score to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi there in 1983. A highlight of its recent expansion is a new Hollywood set, which is a two-story, 3,000 square foot Victorian house in the main stage that utilizes age-old industry techniques such as green screen, painted backgrounds and a back-lit illuminated trans-light. The campus also includes the 8,000 square foot Ivar Theater, which has held many significant performances, including Lord Buckley, The Grateful Dead and The Doors.
