Classic Cottages - Classically British holidays

Classic Cottages, the UK’s leading independent cottage holiday company, raises awareness of the fifth annual British Tourism Week by celebrating its most fantastically ‘British’ breaks.

March 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Fish and chips on the seaside promenade, waves lapping at the shoreline and seagulls fluttering overhead. There’s still something rather magical about a Great British holiday. And with British Tourism Week taking place from 12 - 20 March 2011, it’s only right to celebrate some of the best holidays that Blighty has to offer.

Featuring outstanding properties (sleeping from two to 16 people) across some of the country’s most stunning regions - Cornwall, Dorset, Devon and Somerset - Classic Cottages knows all about what makes the perfect British break. Its portfolio goes far beyond most people’s expectations of a typical British holiday, with many of its properties featuring unique characteristics and services, surrounded by some of the country’s greatest sites and attractions. Here are some of the most exciting British getaways:

Countryside, castle and croquet in Devon, from £107 pp
Behave like British royalty for the weekend by staying at the exclusively elegant Tiverton Castle. Pear Tree (sleeps two) is a very pretty apartment within the Grade I Listed historic castle, from where you can take in the delights of some of the country’s most stunning countryside - the rolling hills and big skies of Devon. Located in the centre of a traditional market town, the castle has magnificent gardens and guests are even invited to enjoy croquet on the lawn, as well as salmon and sea-trout fly fishing in the River Exe. The price of a three-night short break, starting 18 March, costs £107 pp (£214 total).

Explore Agatha Christie’s favourite retreat, from £97 pp
Who wouldn’t want to stay in an area that Agatha Christie declared “the loveliest place in the world; it takes my breath away?” Surrounded by the once-Christie-owned Greenway Estate, Lost and Found (sleeps four) sits at the head of a wooded valley, 300 feet above the River Dart. This Edwardian cottage is reached by a private lane, with its secluded garden offering eye-poppingly beautiful views of the valley. Venture to nearby Dartmouth, which also offers an abundance of British history, with its port, two castles and cobbled market place, as well as top-quality gourmet restaurants. A week’s stay, starting from 11 March, costs £97 pp (£387 total).

Play and indulge in Georgian splendour, from £122 pp
Bask in the glory of a gorgeous Grade II Listed Georgian house, set on Cornwall’s stunning south coast. Venton House (sleeps 16) boasts an enormous lawn perfect for children’s games, including football and croquet (kit provided), along with its own outdoor hot tub. The welcoming owners go all out to make sure your stay is splendid, whether organising a horse-riding adventure or for special caterers to provide cream tea and formal meals. What’s more, you can visit the nearby quaint Cornish fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand or the famous Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, boasting 550 years of British history. A week’s stay at Venton House, starting on 11 March, is £122 pp (£1950 total).

The perfect seaside-break in Cornwall’s far west, from £68 pp
The ancient market town of Marazion typifies everything associated with the very best British holidays. Set on the shores of Mount's Bay, it arguably boasts one of the most beautiful bays not only in Britain, but in the world. Enjoy a seaside walk to the famous Saint Michael's Mount, followed by a visit to the most scrumptious of fish and chip shops along the seafront. Enjoy jaw-dropping views of the bay with a stay at Cliff House (sleeps six), featuring super-cosy leather sofas, an open fire and a spacious kitchen that leads to a large enclosed garden. A week’s stay, starting 12 March, is £68 pp (£408 total).

Picture-postcard village break in Devon, from £74 pp
Broadhembury takes the concept of traditional British villages to a whole new level. With its thatched cottages, quaint village square, meandering river and cosy pubs, visitors can’t help but fall in love with its charm. Stay at Ashton (sleeps five), an 18th century cottage, featuring beautiful furnishings and a stylish kitchen. It’s only a short drive from the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, where you can partake in fossil hunting or enjoy a seaside walk to Beer and Exmouth. Closer to home, there are several rural walks from the village. A week’s stay at Ashton, starting 12 March, is £74 pp (£369 total).
