PRLog - Mar. 10, 2011 - TADWORTH, U.K. -- BRITISH INDIAN OCEAN TERRITORIES RELEASES  THE FIRST COIN TO CELEBRATE THE ROYAL WEDDING OF HRH PRICE WILLIAM OF WALES AND MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON
Pobjoy Mint is excited to produce and release a commemorative coin on behalf of the British Indian Ocean Territories which is one of the first to celebrate the Royal Wedding.

On 16th November 2010, Clarence House made the announcement advising that Prince William, the eldest son of Prince Charles and second in line to the throne, had become engaged to his long-term girlfriend Miss Catherine Middleton.  William and Catherine met whilst students at the University of St Andrews and, following months of speculation, Prince William asked Catherine to marry him in October 2010 whilst on holiday in Kenya but the public announcement was only made public once family and friends were informed.  The fact that Prince William had proposed using the same ring that was given by his father to Diana added to the romance of it all.

The wedding itself will take place on 29th April 2011 and this date has been declared a public holiday in the United Kingdom.

Approved by both Clarence House and Buckingham Palace, this superb coin shows beautifully sculpted portraits of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.  The obverse carries a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS and is available in Cupro Nickel and Proof Sterling Silver.  Coins are also available in Fine 999.9 Gold in various sizes, please contact the Mint for details.  To view these coins and others in the range please visit www.pobjoy.com.

The Pobjoy family has been associated with fine metalwork since the Middle Ages. The Company was recently granted permission to use the family Coat of Arms in which the Medieval Popinjay is the central motif. The Popinjay was a painted wooden parrot used in archery contests in the 14th century and the name Pobjoy is derived from this. The Latin motto 'OCULO CERTO' means 'with an unerring eye' and applies equally to the ancestor's prowess as a marksman, as to the Company's reputation for the high quality and precision of its products. Over the past three centuries, the Company has been involved in many diverse fields, but they have always been involved in metal, both base and precious. During World War II Pobjoy Aero Engineering was involved in the manufacturing of the famous Spitfire wings. The Company is now the largest private Mint in Europe.
