March 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Sandy, UT - Rene’ Johnson, The Power Zone Coach, has been selected to present at the prestigious Salt Lake Chamber University.  This ten-session series for new supervisors and managers provides essential business tools such as communication  techniques, strategies to build highly motivated teams as well as leadership skills and includes more than thirty hours of instruction. Ms. Johnson will present Managing Time, Priorities and Projects on Wednesday,  March 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Ms. Johnson, a specialist in entrepreneurs and small business leaders and their teams, has seen firsthand how improper time management by leaders can cause significant productivity issues and impact an organization’s ability to attain company objectives. A study on management efficiency conducted by the Harvard Business Review in 2002 highlights a growing corporate concern. After analyzing managerial behavior for ten years, researchers concluded that fully 90% of managers squander their time in a variety of ineffective activities and  that less than 10% of a manager’s time is spent in a committed and purposeful manner.

Ms. Johnson has discovered through her business coaching practice that the efficient use of time is the number one success skill any executive can develop. She has enabled leaders to increase their ability to effectively use time through her workshop, The Self-Honoring Approach to Time Management. This unique process is focused around the concept that time improvement skills must originate from the leader first before they can improve others. When they effectively manage their time, leaders naturally focus on what they do best and see opportunities to grow employees through delegation. The self-honoring approach to time creates a trickle-down effect throughout the entire organization. As managers empower those they lead, they lighten their personal workload. This methodology is atypical from other time management models. The results are leaders with increased confidence who take control of outcomes, tap into their personal power and guide their team to success.

Recently, Ms. Johnson successfully coached a small business owner to enact self-honoring approaches to time management in her business. By setting limits and boundaries with her clients and team, this entrepreneur was able to work more closely on individual staff performance needs. By delegating unnecessary tasks she had always completed herself, she gained extra time to work on business building activities that could increase sales. Through her example, the team began to evaluate their own use of time, improve inefficiencies, understand the real value of tasks and consider the bigger vision. The result was increased employee accountability, communication, solution  focus and improved customer service.  In the first month of enacting this model, customer satisfaction ratings grew by over 30%. In addition, the business owner reports more peace and joy in her personal life.

During the Chamber University training, Ms. Johnson will help new supervisors and managers discover these necessary self-honoring time management skills. She will highlight why a departmental and organizational vision is essential and why daily measurement s of success are necessary to implement that vision. Participants will be introduced to a 4-Step Decision Making Process that puts power back in their choices—to not just be busy—but rather increase consistent focus on activities that move a business vision forward. Finally, because stress can cause a reactive versus proactive attitude, Ms. Johnson’s will share ways participants can protect their best asset, themselves. She will review overall self-care strategies that increase confidence in meeting goals and support leaders in taking control so they can experience more balance in their professional and personal lives.
