March issue of Airplanista Magazine features interview with EAA’s Chief Photographer

Airplanista Magazine takes you behind the scenes of an air-to-air photo shoot with EAA's Chief Photographer Jim Koepnick.

March 9, 2011 - PRLog -- With over 500 magazine covers to his credit, Jim Koepnick, the Chief Photographer for the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) provides a look into the exciting world of air-to-air photography with an interview in the March, 2011 issue Airplanista Magazine (http://airplanista.com).

"There are only a handful of aviation photographers who can shoot at Jim Koepnick’s level," said Airplanista Editor and private pilot Dan Pimentel. "He is a master at capturing the excitement of flight by shooing his subject aircraft using only the most dramatic light and scenic backgrounds. With each shot, Jim solidifies what it means to fly, to be free in the sky."

In this interview, Koepnick describes the elegant ballet that takes place during an air-to-air shoot, where a great deal of emphasis is put on safety. He lets the read go along with him on a photo shoot using EAA’s well-known “Photo 1” airplane as a platform, and the piece is illustrated with a number of Koepnick’s brilliant aviation images.

“One element of Airplanista Magazine that we are most proud of,” said Pimentel, “is the way we have elevated the work of our industry's best aviation photographers from eye candy to add color to an written story to the star attraction worthy of their own features. It takes a great deal of skill to photography airplanes during an air-to-air mission, and we honor this dedicated work with a new spread each month highlighting the work of aviation photographers.”
