B2C E-Commerce Segment in U.S. Expects to See Over $170 Billion Turnover in 2011

March 9, 2011 - PRLog -- “Double digit growth within the B2C e-commerce segment and a turnover of more of more than 170 billion USD are anticipated in the USA for the year 2011,” says the latest report from yStats.com. In 2009, the largest American online merchant within the B2C segment was Amazon.com with a turnover of approximately USD $24 billion. Apple followed Amazon as the second largest. Meanwhile, online sales accounted for roughly $3 billion of Sears’ total turnover of $44 billion in 2009. Best Buy experienced a 20% increase in turnover of online sales for 2009.

Industry analysts are also seeing a new “megatrend” in m-commerce (mobile commerce). There were approximately 86 million mobile internet service users in the U.S. last year in 2010. This number is expected to increase in 2011 with 32% of the total U.S. population, or approximately 100 million people, subscribing to mobile internet services.

•60% of internet users used broadband to connect.
•Dial-up connections only accounted for 5% of total online users.
•In 2011, the number of U.S. internet users is expected to reach nearly 230 million (over 70% of the population).

•Female customers accounted for 70% of online shoppers in the apparel and jewelry category.
•Private sales sites and group buying is expected to further increase e-commerce turnover.
