Before the fall of Communism in Poland in 1989, the Communist government ordered the destruction of all documents that could implicate them in the persecution of anyone opposed to the Communist party. Documents were taken away by the truckload and destroyed. Says author Henry Czajewski, “After turning down a job with the Polish Secret Police, they harassed me, and blacklisted me so I was unable to work. It was in Bialystok where my persecution was most severe. Nevertheless, most copies of my documents were preserved at the Ministry of Interior in Warsaw.” As life became increasingly unbearable, the author escaped with his family to America. He believes that his Guardian Angel has protected and guided him throughout his life. This is his amazing story.

About the Author: Henry Czajewski wrote this book to show what life was like in Poland during and after World War II. “I wanted my children and grandchildren to know what type of life I’ve led so they have a comparison. My daughter inspired me the most to write the book, to tell my story. She wanted to know the details of my hardships.” Today he lives in Orland Hills, Illinois.
