Follow on Google News | Chelsea Flower Show 2011One of the talking points of the 2011 Chelsea flower show is likely to be the urban garden designed by up-and-coming designer Heather Appleton.
By: Chilstone This will be a first for the multiple award winning designer as she is new to Chelsea but has delighted many garden judges with her fresh and modern take on the garden. Her design has kept the busy urbanite in mind creating a space to unwind after a hectic day. A specially commissioned Chilstone Garden House takes centre stage supporting a vintage 1970s Crystal Clear suspended Eero Aarnio perspex chair -a wonderful place to relax inside your own personal bubble. This is serious Me Time; who could resist dangling their feet in the cool enigmatic pool on a hot sweltering day sipping something chilled? Wet feet are not a problem in The Chilstone Garden – conventional paving is replaced with a stunning non-slip, shag pile outdoor carpet, yes an outdoor carpet used for the first time in a Chelsea Show Garden...the carpet is designed for British weather with the added bonus of being luxuriously soft to walk upon with bare feet. Cool coloured planting accentuates the 'chilled out' atmosphere of the garden with snowballs of alliums, cow parsley and Baltic parsley giving the impression of a dusting of snow, floating above a restful bed of decorative glasses that ripple in the slightest breeze. About Heather Appleton Heather came late to garden design but has caught up fast! Almost stumbling into garden design in her 50s, she has had a remarkable run of success that must speak of a great natural talent. Her first design for the Harrogate FS in 2006 won her a Silver-Gilt. The very next year she was awarded Gold and Best in Show at RHS Tatton Park with her stunning 'Bubble Garden'. This has been followed with a string of awards from Flowers Shows and Garden Competitions. Heather is modest about this success, “I feel that show gardens are a window for the design world. They are about the profession not the individual designer.” About Chilstone Chilstone are an established manufacturer of composite stone ornaments.
