March 8, 2011 - PRLog -- A widow and mother of two, Elise West had worked in factories most of her life until an injury in 1998.  For the next few years, she worked with children until her husband Ken became ill, and she decided to stay home and care for him.  After 25 years of marriage, Ken passed away and Elise went back to working with children.  In 2007, she suffered once again with an injury that left her unable to work at her current position.  Faced with the tough decision of making a career change, Elise looked at college programs she could excel in, but still utilize the qualifications she had previously obtained.

She researched different schools, but decided that triOS College had something that really interested her.  “They took the time to talk to me and helped me to ascertain what type of career would be best suited for my type of background and personality.”

Returning to school at 52 was extremely scary.  She adjusted well into the Law Clerk program at the Oshawa Campus, but was faced with a personal issue that left her doubting whether she could complete her program.  With the help of friends, she fought through this difficult moment and continued on.

After completing the program, the triOS Career Services team helped her secure her internship interview.   When she arrived at Reder Paralegal Services, a firm that deals with Small Claims Court, Landlord and Tenant Tribunal representation and Mediation of Family Disputes, throughout Durham Region and the GTA, she met with Patricia Reder (owner), and Debra Grant, a triOS graduate.  Reder Paralegal is an active member of our Whitby Chamber of Commerce.   Elise completed her internship with Reder Paralegal Services and was offered full time employment immediately.

triOS helped Elise by giving her the ability to apply a different approach to helping people.  “Instead of helping children, I now help individuals and families with legal matters.  Coupled with my educational values I received from triOS and my personality, this was a great venue to move my career towards.”

triOS College has helped thousands of individuals, across Ontario, just like Elise, move forward into new careers.  We strive to give back to the communities we serve and help people get back to work.
