March 8, 2011 - PRLog -- For those working in the fast-moving and competitive food industry, SATO provides a range of solutions that have been created to make labelling, identifying and tracing food goods an easy and efficient process. At CFIA 2011, SATO France will be showcasing these solutions, which also include the recently launched TH2 label printer, designed to address some of the challenges that face the food industry such as product waste and managing food standard regulations.
The brand new TH2 label printer
Just launched in Europe and being demonstrated in France for the first time, the TH2 label printer has a special antimicrobial coating and has applications for any business involving food. The TH2 is extremely simple to use, lightweight yet robust and able to operate within a temperature range between 0 and 40˚C.
The TH2 represents a new concept in printing namely, Application Enabled Printing or AEP. Using SATO’s software it is possible for a user to create a new application very easily and to transfer or update this information onto the SD memory of the unit via USB or LAN.
Designed with practical use in mind the TH2 is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that allows between 4000 and 5000 labels to be printed from a single charge. The TH2 features an in-built keypad, so there’s no need for a PC in close proximity. It has a wide, adjustable LCD screen display which offers mobile phone type, intuitive operation.
SATO is always aware of price sensitivity; users will be impressed that despite its market-leading technical specification the TH2 stands alone and there are no other products in its price bracket that offer such innovative features and benefits.
Print and Apply solutions
The Compact Lt SD will be showcased on the stand and is suitable for use on all food containers as it provides a system of ‘print and apply’ labels available in multiple formats that come pre-loaded to the printer. Quick and efficient, it can print out 30 standard size labels (40mm x 40mm to 100mm x 100mm) per minute and the Compact Lt SD can be used by an operator immediately as it does not require any programming. With ease of use and operator safety at the forefront of its design, the Compact Lt SD label printer has no moving parts and can be operated in isolation via its built-in keypad or when connected to a PC.
The built-in computer on the Compact Lt SD can also be configured to allow customisation of labels to suit requirements. When connected to a PC, the printer integrates seamlessly with SATO’s Label Gallery 3.2 software, which is also compatible with all other SATO printers. The ability to integrate with a PC also provides users with a real-time display panel and allows the management of existing databases directly on the site of label generation (i.e. with receipts).
Another print and apply solution that will be exhibited is the S84xx, a state of the art, high performance OEM print engine that is capable of printing high resolution barcode labels up to 609 dpi. Coupled with state-of-the-art print and font technology, this printer guarantees top quality prints with maximum label-design flexibility in any operational environment. Print speeds up to 16 ips offer fast label output and maximum throughput.

Adhesive labels and tags - DR3
SATO’s DR3 printer is suited in particular to printing adhesive labels and tags for the food manufacturing industry and can handle printing on thick cardboard – up to 0.28mm. It is also suitable for large rolls of labels (up to 250mm outside diameter, width 80mm).
The DR3 can operate in standalone mode in-store without the need to connect to a computer, which means less investment in hardware is required for users. It also has improved independent printing capabilities, which can all be easy operated and configured via the built-in alpha-numeric keypad.  The ability to connect to a computer is however available, allowing users to remotely monitor and manage one or more printers at once.
The DR3’s intuitive operation means that it provides better performance at the beginning and end of printing. It has a detection cell for removable labels that distinguishes the perforations of adhesive labels and cardboard tags, avoiding unsightly marks that guide positioning data when printing. For easy printing ‘on-demand’, the DR3 comes complete with a paper cutter, stacker, label rewinder and distributor.
Application printing from the CG2 and CG4
Suitable for on-demand and low volume printing, the CG2 and CG4 label printers are part of the SATO Compact range, and are both operational as stand-alone units but can be connected to a computer to enable greater customisation of labels and additional functionality. The CH2 and CG4 are the perfect solutions for label production in the food industry as the casing of these printers is manufactured from an antimicrobial material.
The CG2 printer is also RFID-ready providing an affordable HF RFID printing solution. The size of both the CG2 and CG4 make the printers an ideal choice if there is limited counter space and they provide touch-of-a-button printing convenience for operators on the shop floor or back office.

Print resolution for both models is up to 305 dpi, adequate enough to print text and barcodes, including 2D barcodes on very small labels, such as those commonly used in the electronics or pharmaceutical industries for component or specimen labelling. Typical applications for the GC2 and CG4 include: price and shelf-edge labelling, markdown labelling, returns labelling, product authentication and item tracking.
Mobile Solutions
Also available from SATO is the series of mobile printers which are perfect for industrial applications that require portability, reliability and simple operation on-demand. Small and lightweight, the MB2i and the MB4i mobile printers can be taken anywhere when fitted with a belt clip or shoulder strap.
Both printers are user-friendly and have large control buttons. Printer information is easy to see and access on the LCD display and with its top-loading media cover, operators can quickly change label rolls with minimal effort.

Pallet Labelling
The CL608e will also be on show at the SATO stand, offering the latest in technology for high speed data transmission, unparalleled processing speed and large amounts of on-board memory to quickly and easily manage any label printing requirement. These elements ensure that the CL608e is the perfect solution for applications such as pallet labelling.

The CL608e printer contains an RISC processor resulting in high performance label production even when printing directly from standard Windows. The CL608e’s heavy-duty construction, proven reliability, and excellent media handling deliver optimum performance in the most demanding environments. It helps to simplify connectivity with seven options of user configurable Plug-In Interface Modules. For centralised printer management and administration, the printer also offers 10/100 Ethernet (wired) and wireless (802.11g) interface solutions.
Many other innovative solutions will be exhibited at the SATO stand, to find out more about these products and to speak to one of the team of experts, visit SATO at Hall 2, Stand D6 at CFIA 2011.
