Atlanta, Georgia – National Multiple Sclerosis Society - March 8, 2011

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Georgia Chapter announced today that Tracy Martin, Mobility Consultant, is one of 55 corporate leaders nominated to Atlanta’s MS Leadership Class. Martin serves as Mobility Consultant, Georgia Sales & Marketing at AMS Vans, Inc., and oversees the sale of wheelchair accessible vans. With a high degree of creativity and a strong appreciation for social medium, branding and advertising, she also develops tactical marketing campaigns for Georgia. Martin's genuine respect for people allows her to perform in a role that serves her customers and industry associates with the integrity and compassion they deserve.

“The MS Leadership Class of 2011 offers exciting possibilities for rising business men and women to socialize, network and contribute to an ever changing community with what seems to be an array of social, political and healthcare needs,” said MS Leadership Class co-chairs Cherise Mlott, Director, AT&T and Char Fortune, Managing Director at Grubb & Ellis.  “It’s not often that one finds a group of professionals so dedicated and committed to promoting success in their own career that they engage their talent and financial resources to make a difference in the welfare and well-being of others.”

“AMS Vans, Inc supports the mission of the National MS Society Georgia Chapter to help free the world of Multiple Sclerosis, and we understand the importance of community service during this time of cutbacks,” said Kip Crum.  “Tracy Martin’s willingness to take the lead, to make a difference in our community, and to put the needs of the people first is what makes her so exceptional.”

“The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Georgia Chapter is honored to launch the 2011 Class with such an accumulation of bright, energetic men and women.  The nominees have responded to the needs of our community without hesitation, and without the forethought of recognition,” said the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Georgia Chapter President Roy A. Rangel.  “As our community continues to overcome challenges faced by an economic crisis not seen in many decades, the MS Leadership Class of 2011 is in a way, an audition for epic styles of leadership to perform in a community that relies on talent to solve its problems.  This great group of leaders will build awareness of the National MS Society and its mission to create a world free of MS.”

Class graduates will be honored with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s coveted MS Leadership Award, an honor reserved for a stellar group of men and women across the U.S. aspiring to greater achievements in their field and making significant contributions in their community.  Mayor Sam Massell, president of the Buckhead Coalition, long-time Atlanta business leader, is the Honorary Chair for the MS Leadership Class of 2011.

With a career that includes B2B sales and film/television production, Tracy Martin was not exactly looking for a life-changing experience when she joined the staff of AMS Vans, Inc.  but then again neither are people who are faced with a MS diagnosis. Martin quickly came to realize how the ability to travel freely is often taken for granted. Armed with this new discovery, she is determined to make Georgia residents aware that there is an affordable wheelchair van available for those who dream of going places. In her role as Georgia Mobility Consultant, Martin pursues sponsorship opportunities and community outreach activities that directly benefit her customers.  Previously, Martin was recognized by Women in Film & Television for her work as Executive Director for the Woman’s Angle, a non-profit developed for women directors, with the 2007 “Woman to Watch” award.   Tracy Martin stands fully committed in her of support of those who are pursuing of a life free of MS.

About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Georgia Chapter:
Multiple sclerosis stops people from moving. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. The National MS Society believes that moving is not just something you can or can’t do, but rather who you are. This is why we sponsor events like Bike MS and Walk MS — to raise funding for the care and research needed to keep people with MS moving — while moving the world closer to a future free of MS.

All funds for this work are raised privately. Along with hundreds of volunteers, the Chapter raises more than $3 million annually from events such as the Bike MS: Cox Atlanta Ride, the Deloitte. Bike MS: Atlanta to Athens Ride, and the Walk MS series throughout the state. The funds support a wide range of educational programs and direct services and national research to stop MS.  In 2009, Charity Navigator awarded the Georgia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society with a high rating for operational efficiency, with 85 cents of every dollar raised going directly to local programs and research to find a cure for MS.  The Georgia Chapter assists clients by providing financial assistance, respite care, MS centers, self-help groups and peer counseling, community information and referrals, education, chapter publications, and recreational and social programs. On the healthcare front, the Georgia Chapter conducts in-service training for healthcare professionals to advance their knowledge of MS.
