March 7, 2011 - PRLog -- This is National Sleep Awareness Week, an annual observance sponsored by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) to turn the country's attention to the need for healthy sleep.

A poll just released by the NSF reveals that 43% of Americans age 13-64 say they rarely or never get a good night's sleep on weeknights. The reasons for this are as many as the sheep that are being counted every night.

Sonoma County resident, Patty Tucker, PA-C knows about this first hand.  As a physician assistant, sleep coach and consultant, Patty has seen what can go wrong with sleep patterns and has helped thousands of people find their way to the restful sleep they need.

"Sleep is 1/3rd of our lives," says Patty. "If it isn't working well the other 2/3rds are likely to suffer.  Poor sleep has been linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity and depression.

Patty reports that making small changes can make big differences. The key is being able to establish new habits and patterns that can stick. Going to bed and getting up at the same time every day is the first thing to do.  Creating a restful environment and removing "sleep stealing" clutter from our bedrooms and minds is also important.

Getting restful sleep on a regular basis does not have to be only a dream.  Patty offers free information in the form of 10 tips to start this process at her website http://www.SleepOfChampions.com.
