March 7, 2011 - PRLog -- In a bid to discover more about the fears parents may have about expanding their family, the UK’s leading discount website, http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, has conducted research of 1,271 parents-of-one across the UK to determine what concerns they may have about having more children.

The research, conducted by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk,  revealed that a tenth, 11%, of parents with one child who do not want any more children admit that they are fearful that they ‘won’t love’ their second child as much as their first.

Respondents to the study were initially asked ‘do you want to have more children?’ to which the majority, 49%, answered ‘yes’, compared to a quarter, 23%, who said ‘no’. The remaining 28% were ‘unsure’.

When parents were further asked to elaborate on their thoughts towards expanding their family, 26% of those who didn’t want any more children said it was because they ‘can’t afford’ more children; whilst a further 21% simply ‘didn’t want’ another child. 11% of those who didn’t want a second child admitted that it was because they feared not loving their second child as much as their first.

Of those who feared a lack of love for their second child, the majority were men; making up 62% of these respondents. Furthermore, the majority, 68%, of these respondents were only-children themselves.

Mark Pearson, chairman of  http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on the findings:

“This research was conducted in a bid to discover more about parent’s fears and concerns about expanding their families, and some of the reasons for not wanting more children were surprising. Whilst concerns about finances are completely understandable, it was a surprise to see that as many as one in ten felt concern for not loving a second child as much; and that the majority of these respondents were men.”

He continued:

“There are so many families that have more than one child and I am sure that most parents may have once had the same fears. However, the respondents who fear not loving a second child as much should simply discuss their worries with their partner, and I am sure that all the fears will be put to rest; as rarely would these feelings ever continue once a baby is born.

“For those who are concerned about having more children due to extra cost, sites such as MyVoucherCodes.co.uk can drastically help on savings on a variety of products such as children’s clothing, furniture and toys. Having a baby is expensive, so every little saving can help in the long run.”
