Global Food Contact 2011 - conference agenda announced.

Pira International announces the agenda for its biennial Global Food Contact conference, taking place on 14 – 16 June 2011 in Frankfurt, Germany.

March 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Pira’s 5th edition of Global Food Contact will build on the success of 2009 and promises once again to assemble leading speakers and key industry figures to assess the critical issues that are affecting the food contact industry around the world.

The event will commence with two pre-conference workshops, the first will be led by a top US attorney in the food contact arena, Eric Greenberg, who will refresh delegates understanding of how the FDA regulates food contact materials, he will also discuss what's happening now at the FDA and how these new initiatives are expected to affect future policy and prospects of innovative new materials and uses.  

The second workshop is led by Pira’s leading consultant on food contact issues, Nick Kernoghan who will guide you through how to deal with notification and compliance issues on some of the materials not well covered by EU harmonised legislation. Including “How to get Nanomaterials Approved for Food Contact Applications” and “How to Show Compliance for Colorants, Coatings, Inks and Adhesives in Food Contact Applications”.

Day one of the conference kicks off with a European regulatory update by Nick Kernoghan and Dr Joerg-Peter Langhammer of EUPIA. Then Ralf Eisert of BASF SE and Luigi Rossi from KELLER AND HECKMAN offer delegates an insight into the supplier’s perspective.

In the afternoon of day one there is an initial focus on international developments in the nanomaterials field with experts Dr Anna Gergely of STEPTOE & JOHNSON LLP and Steffi Friedrichs from NANOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION. This is followed by an assessment of Food Contact Legislation in the Americas, presented by Arthur Miller from EXPONENT and Mirka Falicki of FOOD DIRECTORATE HEALTH CANADA and Eng Alejandro Ariosti of INTI - RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER FOR THE PLASTICS INDUSTRY.

The evening of day one offers delegates the chance network with industry peers with a drinks reception at Main Tower bar with a magnificent view over Frankfurt. This networking event is   sponsored by MAYER BROWN LLP and will provide all attendees with the perfect opportunity to reflect on the days proceedings and discover valuable new business partnerships.

Day two begins with an update on regulatory developments in Asia and the Middle East by Dr Fan Yongxiang of MINISTRY OF HEALTH, China,  Prof. Dr. Keun-Taik Lee of GANGNEUNG-WONJU NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, South Korea and Kevin Kenny, COO, DECERNIS, US. This will be followed by a more general overview of key regulatory developments around the world by Joan Sylvain Baughan, Partner, KELLER & HECKMAN, Ruediger Liske from PLASTICSEUROPE, Sebastien Louvion of MAYER BROWN LLP and Rachida Semail of KELLER & HECKMAN.
