This month marks the anniversary of both the birth of a great inventor and the birth of his great invention, plus he is a fellow Scot. The trifecta!

It follows on from our last three newsletters showing an example of:

Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
When Bell began experimenting with electrical signals, the telegraph had been an established means of communication for some 30 years. Although a highly successful system, the telegraph, with its dot-and-dash Morse code, was basically limited to receiving and sending one message at a time.

By June 1875 his goal of creating a device that would transmit speech electrically was about to be realized.

First Voice - Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.

Alexander Graham Bell's notebook entry of 10 March 1876 describes his successful experiment with the telephone. Speaking through the instrument to his assistant, Thomas A. Watson, in the next room, Bell utters these famous first words, "Mr. Watson -- come here -- I want to see you."  And the rest as they say is History.

But it was his Future History long before it became a reality. His passion for his huge goal constantly drove him to overcome any challenges. His ability to access both sides of his brain to think creatively and his positive Self Talk must have been vital elements when faced with the challenges of inventing: “Talking with Electricity”


So on Thursday March 10th, or next time you are on your mobile or office phone, think of the Inventor and think how he must have had the mental ability to Think Big and the resilience to keep going to achieve his huge goal. We can all learn from Alexander Graham Bell.
