The purpose of this huge effort of physical and mental strength and powers of endurance is to raise money for the Australian Heart Foundation.
Every year 50,000 Australians (yes, you read that correctly) die from cardiovascular disease (CDV.) Brenda’s “On My Bike” tour aims to draw attention to the seriousness of the problem and to raise funds for the main foundation in the country that is tackling the problem head on.
The long trek begins in Scarborough, Western Australia on March 31st this year and is scheduled to finish on May 10th in Scarborough, Queensland.
Brenda will do the pedaling but you can help with donations by visiting http://www.everydayhero.com.au/
In Brenda’s own words “I have created this page so businesses, friends and family can make donations to the Heart Foundation, while I pedal my way across Australia! As I have lived in both New Zealand and Australia, I have a fund-raising page for each country. You choose!!”
Businesses can offer sponsorship at Brenda’s official “On My Bike” tour page, www.brendanoonan-
Finally you can follow the tour daily on Brenda’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/

What a journey life is!!
Here I am, in my late fifties, biking across Australia - who would have thought I would ever do that!
Many "friends" say I am mad - they are probably right - but it is something I want to do ..... why? I don't really know - maybe just to prove to myself that I can set a challenge for myself, train for it and achieve it!
I am also taking the opportunity to use this to raise money for the Heart Foundation.
A bit of my background .........
I was born in Whakatane, New Zealand, the middle child of three, and the daughter of school-teacher parents. I enjoyed a wonderful family upbringing in rural parts of the North Island of New Zealand - (Manawahe, Tapapa, Horotiu and Otaika). It was a wholesome, enjoyable life with a great balance of schooling, music lessons, horse riding and holidays!
Upon leaving school, my career path can only be described as unpredictable with significant changes in direction as different opportunities presented themselves!
