zAutos Features: 2011 Hyundai Veracruz - Bold and Beautiful Schmaltz

March 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Most suburban-dwelling parents would derisively describe the idea of a “driving experience” as, “too darn schmaltzy.” With two or three kids on a leash, four or five places to be and six or seven Tylenol pills for the day, harried parents have little patience for short gear changes and responsive steering. Get rid of the pills, parents, because here’s the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz.

The Veracruz is an affordable seven-passenger mid-size crossover SUV that makes little pretense as to its purpose – it’s a Honda-Ford-Toyota-Lexus-killin’ machine. It’s available in two trims, the base GLS and the Limited. Although equipped with one of the lowest prices in-class, the Veracruz boasts one of the most upscale, practical and laid back “driving experiences” in the market.

“Bold and beautiful,” claims Hyundai. The Veracruz makes a noticeable street statement with its sleek, defined exterior lines. Exterior features, such as fog lights and automatic headlamps, put some clout behind the message. “Great and gorgeous,” consumers respond.

Most buyers never pop the hood of their vehicles except to decipher whether the odd scraping noise has something to do with that heavy gray thing. As such, Hyundai sends most of its design troops to invade the interior, and what a rout. Even the base model packs features like XM radio, heated and adjustable front seats, rear parking sensors and a cooled beverage container. The Limited tacks on leather upholstery, driver memory functions, an upgraded audio system and much more. The entire interior is swathed in tasteful, lavish materials.

As for that elusive driving experience, what’s not to love? The V6 engine spurts out plenty of power for even the most exuberant daily driving. The quiet ride is comfortable without being floppy, and both FWD and AWD are available. Assisted by standard traction and stability control, the Veracruz is as safe as a twelve year-old’s hoard of candy, and wins a perfect ballot from NHTSA and IIHS.
